About the Author
Paige Kane
I was lucky. My mom was an amateur artist and she loved children’s books. She chose books based on the illustrations and often created additional illustrations for fun. My family lived out in the country and we didn’t always have a working TV so at times there wasn’t much to do but if you had a book you had something good. Some of my favorite books were “I Wish I had a Pony,” “Cranberry Thanksgiving,” “Bedtime for Francis” and “Miss Suzy.”
As I grew older, the “Little House on the Prairie” series was a favorite as were “Charlotte’s Web” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” As a teenager Stephen King books held my attention and now I enjoy contemporary fiction.
I spent time in the classroom as an English teacher and guiding students through meaningful reading and writing was at the heart of my effort everyday.
My favorite children's books still sit on my bookshelf and now “Howie in Newport” is beside them. I hope you'll add Howie to your own library but mostly I hope you enjoy reading about Howie as much as I enjoyed writing about him!
